The Randy Abel Memorial Scholarship
The Randy Abel Memorial Scholarship has been established in
the memory of the loving husband and trusted friend that passed away at the age
of 53. Randy's greatest love was baseball! Growing up with two
brothers, there was always someone to play with and challenge him. At the
age of 14, Randy was badly burned from the waist down. He spent 99 days
in the Saint Elizabeth Burn Unit. Unfortunately, at that time baseball
was put on hold. Randy's love for life and baseball got him back to
playing in no time. Prior to Randy's burn, he had several professional
scouts that were watching him for his playing ability. Randy befriended
everybody he met and would do anything for a stranger, friend, or family.
Randy was also known for his infectious smile and laughter. Randy had a strong
love for baseball up until the day he passed, which was after the final Royals
game (his favorite team) into the World Series, which they lost.
This memorial has been established in Randy's memory to
provide an opportunity for young kids that can't afford to play, but have a
passion for baseball. We're hoping one young boy can carry on this love
and make it to the big leagues for Randy!!
